#Wi-Fi's Encryption and WEP

　As you know,Wi-Fi is a way of accessing to the internet without using wired LAN. This is popular as there is one in each household. The connection is encrypted so that contents of connection cannot be accessed or tampered by strangers. (You enter a password when you connect a Wi-Fi, don't you?)

Doing that prevents strangers from knowing what sites you accessed or your purchase history, your card number. There is few people who don't care what they saw can be accessed by strangers , or strangers can connect their home network.
But there is a way, called WEP to encrypt Wi-Fi, is low safety. But there is a way to encrypt Wi-Fi called WEP, and it is low safety


#What is WEP?

WEP appeared in 1997. At that time, it was expected to have security similar to wired LAN. WEP is abbreviation of Wired Equivalent Privacy. However, vulnerability became obvious from 2001, now it is easy to analyze with free software distributed. In other words, if you want to know the password, you can see it without using a special environment.　


#Why should you disable WEP?

I think some people who think that they are OK because they are not connecting by using WEP, but even if there is no risk of seeing communication contents in WEP, there is a risk of being invaded into the network. In the story I heard, people who accustomed to using computers can analyze the password of WEP in five minutes. If strangers invade a network, they can make trojans and other viruses spread in your home network.

#Using Safe Ways to Encryption

　Wi-Fi security can only be set to secure encryption methods other than WEP in router or wi-fi access point configuration. Please see the instruction manual and open the setting screen. Those who say that they have abandoned their instructions or those who lost it should look up the model number of their Wi-Fi router (perhaps, I think there is a description on the main body) on the Internet. These days, the method of encryption called WPA2-PSK AES is said to be most safety method, so I recommend you to set it. When you do that, please don't select non-encryption. This is more danger than WEP!

Also, the password of Wi-Fi is the initial？If the initial password is likely to have a rule or if it is the same password as WEP, you should change it as soon as possible.
